FIGHTING
TOGETHER.

For over a decade, Smash Cup has stood proudly alongside the Nor-Cal Breast Cancer Connection. Together we've helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for breast cancer awareness, with a portion of every tournament registration going directly to their cause.

Every team that takes the pitch at Smash Cup helps fuel the fight — funding education, early-detection resources, and support for families across the North State.

BORN IN
1996.

The campaign began in 1996 in Northern California with three individuals: Dr. Michael Figueroa, Oncologist of Solace Cancer Care; Carol Lake of the American Cancer Society; and Melody Christenson of MD Imaging in Redding. Their goal was simple — promote awareness and early detection by encouraging women to do their breast self-exam and get annual mammograms.

It started with just 500 free educational bags handed out to the public. Today, up to 22,000 Breast Cancer Awareness bags are distributed to over 30 surrounding communities each year on Breast Cancer Awareness Day — the third Thursday in October.

1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. When caught early, there is a 98% survival rate. Early detection saves lives.

"Having planned a family trip to Maui, and not wanting any bad news to affect our trip, I put off my annual mammogram for a month. For some reason I had a feeling that I wasn't going to like the results. It was a small tumor and close to my chest wall. But I come from a family of very strong women. My mother was diagnosed with the same size tumor in the same location in 2002. She did it, so could I."
